RC-20 Retro Color has been in my template for the past $43 days. Here is the honest report. Full context: plugingrab.com.
What works
- Sound quality holds up in dense mixes without the usual saturation plugins artefacts.
- The preset library covers 80% of common saturation plugins use cases without deep tweaking.
- Its saturation plugins engine is CPU-light on modern rigs — even multi-instance projects stayed under 20% CPU on an M2 Pro.
If you are just scouting the saturation plugins landscape, browse more saturation plugins to compare RC-20 Retro Color against the rest of the field.
What drags
UI at 4K on Windows scales awkwardly — usable but not sharp. That was the single friction point in eight weeks of use.
Who should get it
If you already have three or four saturation plugins options and none feel right, RC-20 Retro Color is worth two weeks of trial. If you have zero and want a single reliable pick, this is one of the safer bets in XLN Audio’s catalogue.
